DAD ROCK

Dad Rock didn't so much form, as evolve. Some of them first got together to celebrate a sort of anniversary in 1998. We won't bother with the detail but that's where the incredibly embarrassing name came from - it was a joke ! Unfortunately the name stuck and all attempts to change it have failed. However, as Larry Bartel insists, Dad Rock isn't just a name it is a musical "genre". And he's right - just do a search on "dad rock" on the internet and see how many hits you get.

 (That's their excuse anyway !)

The band truly became established when Johnny Foyle joined as their bass player and Chris Jones was persuaded to become their permanent drummer. The full line-up of these ageing rock wannabees is:-

Larry Bartel - Larry's main contributions are rhythm guitar, vocals and rehearsal space. In his real life he is a head teacher.

Johnny Foyle - Johnny is a superb musician (really). He plays bass guitar, cello, a bit of guitar and can be seen wincing at the sound of an out-of-tune guitar from a considerable distance. In the real world he is a teacher

Chris Jones - An excellent drummer and a musician with an excellent feel for the buttons to press to keep a live audience bubbling. In the daylight hours, Chris works in the field of film and television as a director and cameraman as a well as being "visiting professor of cinematography" at Larry's school.

Tony Lawther - Tony plays guitar, keyboard, flute and chips in with some vocals.  Tony has his own presentation technology company called Prestech and rarely wears matching socks

Brian Stansbridge - Guitars, occasional harmonica and regular backing vocals. Brian is a management and organisation development consultant having recently given up a proper job.

Chris Williams - Lead vocalist with the band, mainly because he has a penchant for dressing up in sparkly suits and dark glasses. Chris is a training and development consultant who travels all over the world for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - really !

What can you say about Dad Rock ? Well just that they like to have a good time and never, NEVER take themselves seriously. Thanks to Adrian and Lightbug for many enjoyable hours in the studio, pretending to be rock stars ! Dream on.............
